1) What is the goal of Burning Tide over the next year and expanding what the band is doing?

It seems in recent months our following has really grown, and it’s our goal to hit the road and rock tons of new faces. We can’t wait to get in the studio and get out our second album, so people can hear more of what we sound like now that we’ve settled into our groove, as far as style. Our biggest thing is to keep the Burning Tide Nation growing–we want the whole world to ride the Tide!

2) You are nominated in 5 categories on the PB Awards.  Did you expect this and why?

To be honest, we were pleasantly surprised. We’re a newer band, so to be nominated in so many categories is an honor. As a band that’s been faced with a lock of roadblocks from the beginning, it’s a triumph both personally and professionally to have risen above all the BS .

3) What do you feel separates you from all the other bands in the area?

While there are a few really good party bands, and a few really good chick-fronted bands, we have yet to see the two combined. We’re like Motley Crue…with boobs. Some rock is getting so sad and gloomy–we’re bringing back debauchery! Three rowdy roughnecks and one racy redhead raise a glass to all the party people! (Plus, how often do you see a chick rock singer slappin’ da bass?)

4) Where does your motivation and inspiration come from when developing your music?

One word…Hair. We draw heavy inspiration from the attitude of the ’80′s hair metal bands, like Motley Crue, Guns & Roses, etc. And to make it our own, we throw in a little bit of Stars & Bars, calling on our southern rock background to complete the 100 proof brain-cell killer known as Burning Tide. In a nutshell, we wanna bring the fun back to rock ‘n’ roll.

5) How has the KC music scene changed over the past year, and do you think it is for the better or worse?

50/50. Some great bands have popped up in the last year, and we’ve been lucky to play with a lot of them. But, KC is becoming very genre-specific, and it’s becoming increasingly harder to find bands to play with outside of that genre. As a band that doesn’t feature screaming vocals, we occasionally find it a challenge to fit in on certain bills.

On the bright side, there seems to be a whole new rise of local-music support, from promoters to venues to fans. Whether people are finally having more money in their pocket to head down to see a local band, or there are more organizations who have a genuine interest in seeing good new bands get the steam they need to get rolling, local bands are definitely getting the help they need to make a decent run at breaking through.

6) Would you rather play shows to 3000+ people, or the smaller venues of 2-300 and why?

3000+, the more the merrier! Never hurts to have a bunch of drinking buddies there when the Tide rolls in.

7) Being a band with a female lead, does this create specific challenges and why?

Seems like no matter how hard we try, sometimes its hard to get people to take female-fronted bands seriously, or they group us in with ALL other female-fronted bands. It seems like most chick-bands, even super talented ones, focus on sappy love/whiny breakup songs. Girls know how to have fun too! Roxxxi says: I’m lighter, it makes keg-stands easier!

P.S. MUCH LOVE TO THE BURNING TIDE NATION!
