Oh boy, it was special. To be honest I went to see Swill and hang with friends of the like mind. We were not disappointed as they played a very long set with a great mixture of old and new music. I miss the confetti cannons, sparks flying and fire eaters, but I digress. This is supposed to be about Johnny Rokker.
Johnny started this whole thing with a very special Christmas story, dressed as an Easter bunny. The Story was quirky, funny and maybe even genius. However, his assistant and fellow musician was definitely the highlight. SHWING! is all I have to say. Mrs. Claus was looking far different than the one I recall from my childhood. I know that more than a few people see Johnny as a kooky throwback to a time long forgotten, but I got to Hand it to Jim Kilroy for his support of this old Rokker.
While some in the audience seemed to fail to get Johnny when he was talking about whatever idea was in his head, it was abundantly obvious that they were pleasantly surprised to see he has not missed a beat when he starts to sing. Johnny has truly stepped up his show since the last time I witnessed it. He is sounding solid as hell, and his band truly supported him and made the experience full. I will end this with a Christmas wish; I want to see another Johnny Rokker Christmas special in 2012. I hope it happens and hope to see you all there.
