Touted by many as the greatest prog rock drummer of all-time, Neil Peart was not just a star, but an icon.
A statement issued by family spokesperson Elliot Mintz confirms Peart has died after being diagnosed with brain cancer. His glorious career with Canadian rock band Rush lasted 44 years, leading to inductions to both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame (1994) and U.S. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (2013) alongside band mates Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson.

Last on stage in 2015, and on film a year later in the Rush documentary Time Stand Still , Peart served as inspiration to musicians worldwide. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find talented prog drummers who don’t name him as a major influence.
He is survived by his wife Carrie and daughter Olivia.
